Disco legend France Joli, whom RuPaul's Drag Race fans might recognize from Aja's mention on All Stars 3, has come a long way since her days with her smash 1979 hit, "Come to Me," but the Canadian songstress is back with a new song called "Don't Forget to Dance" in honor of Pride Month.
Just last Friday, Joli's track was released as part of a compilation of songs about equality in support of the LGBTQ+ community called Love is Love: Artists For Equality. "My brother Christian, my manager Daniel Vaillancourt, and I wrote this song as a tribute to the people—especially LGBTQ+ youth—on the front lines of the fight for equality," Joli said in a statement. "But we soon realized that the lyrics also apply to the work of everyone involved in the #BLM, #MeToo, #TimesUp, #NeverAgain, and # EnoughIsEnough movements. We're all in this together, right?"
Love is Love: Artists For Equality is donating 10% of net proceeds from the music downloads and streams to Family Equality Council, a non-profit whose mission is to advance legal equality for LGBTQ families, and for those who wish to form them. The compilation also dropped in conjunction with a children's book titled Love is Love. Written by Michael Genhart, Ph.D. and illustrated by Ken Min, the book details straightforward conversation about LGBTQ+ discrimination from a child's point of view. It will be released by Sourcebooks on May 1, 2018.
